LOVE

<span class=Photobucket" border="0">

Ten years ago this day, Derek and I were both attending Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona. Our friendship grew stronger and stronger after getting to know each other for a period of 3 years. After 4 months of serious courting, on February 13th, 1999...Derek took me on a little road trip, to the Grand Canyon. It was only a 30 minute drive. It was nice to get away from our school studies. Plus, we always looked forward to spending time together no matter what we were doing. We were definitely falling in love. Derek wanted to make this day special because we couldn't spend Valentine's Day together, since Derek had an early, early, flight that morning to Dallas for a job interview.

It was such a fun day at the Grand Canyon, walking around the beautiful park. We had all the time in the world to just talk about everything and anything. After spending all afternoon in the great outdoors we decided to head back home to Flagstaff. I knew Derek had some special plans for us for dinner, but had no clue something bigger was coming. He dropped me off at my apartment to get ready. About 15 minutes before I knew Derek was going to pick me up, my best friend Amy came over. She knew I had plans, what is she doing here? Not like I mind hanging out with my best friend...but what's going on? She had this look on her face like she was up to something or at least knew someone who was. She handed me a flower (a Tulip to be exact) and a note with it. I was so confused. She then proceeded to tell me she was my chauffeur for the evening, and that Derek wants me to run an errand to pick up flowers for our dinner table.

Basically, Derek planned for me to go on a Treasure hunt before dinner and Amy was going to come along for good company. I was excited for the adventure and so curious at what he was up to at the same time. Derek has always been a fun date because of things like this (still is)...but for some reason this was different in some way. My sweetie definitely had us drive all around town, picking up tulips at each destination. It was fun to have Amy with me for the ride. Derek was very charming with his clues and even left some fun surprises for me at each stop. Once I got my last clue the anticipation was growing inside me. The clue led me to the LDS Institute building (where we meet for church and for other activities during the week). Amy then told me it was time for her to say good-bye. (I still have all of his clues ;), I keep everything! Especially if it's from him.)

Okay what is going on??? I saw a note on the front door that told me to walk around the back of the building and there will be a door propped open for me. It was funny because I actually saw a glimpse of Derek running through the hallway with a lamp in his hand (later found out he was running behind because of the restaurant messing up our food order not once but three times. Poor Guy!). I had to chuckle at that and just pretended like I didn't see him. I walked around back and entered the building. The sight was beautiful! I saw a table set for two with candlelight and a pizza box from our favorite Pizza restaurant, Oregano's. Yum! In the background I could hear music playing of all of our favorite love songs. The way he decorated the room felt like we were actually in a romantic restaurant in Italy. But where was Derek? He was nowhere in sight. I walked up to the table and sitting on the table there was a stuffed bear with a heart box. Beside the bear was a note that read:

His words just touched my heart and I started to cry! I opened the Bear's heart box and found a beautiful, sparkling, diamond ring. I was in shock and overwhelmed with emotion towards this man who had come into my life. I couldn't keep in the words... YES, of course I'll marry you! Derek was of course standing behind me watching me during the whole experience. Once I was aware of this, I just had to jump in his arms and give him his answer over and over again. We continued to enjoy our romantic evening sharing our excitement and talked about starting our future together.

I know this is part of our love story of how Derek popped the question (and I'm sorry if it was too sappy for you, or too long)...but I couldn't help but think about this endearing moment in my life all week. This is why we celebrate the 13th of February rather than the 14th. I'm so grateful to this day that Derek asked me to be his Bride. Whatever comes our way hard or easy we continue to fight for what we have and for what is still to come. I love you so much Honey! Thank you for making that day February 13, 1999 a special one and for all the special ones since. I LOVE YOU TO PIECES!!! You're the Man!!! My Man!!!!

Happy, Happy Birthday!

Cassidy is now the BIG 3!!!

This was Cassidy's Birthday wish list (since October):
  • Go to King Sooper's (our local grocery store)
  • Ride the Horse she has named Sierra, a total of 4 times
  • Buy her some Broccoli. Yes, Broccoli!
We thought it was the cutest, easiest, most thought out request we have ever heard of. Of course we had to grant this Birthday girl's wishes.

This little boy was probably thinking, "What is her mom doing???"

Birthday Party

Since we had a little extra money to spend, Derek and I decided to throw Cassidy a birthday party. We had the chance to celebrate her actual birthday, February 6th, at Chuck E. Cheese.

Cassidy invited some friends and of course Mommy and Daddy were able to come too. It worked out that Derek's rotation of every other Friday off from work was Cassidy's birthday. Our little girl was very excited about that!

We PLAYED, ate pizza, PLAYED, opened presents, ate ice cream/cake and PLAYED. This birthday girl was tuckered out by the time we got home. She had a wonderful, long, nap. Thanks to all the friends and family that helped make her birthday special.

A fun surprise was having family and friends call to sing happy birthday to her. She definitely loves singing to others who are celebrating their birthdays, and to have it be her turn brought a smile to her face.

Happy Birthday Darlin! We love you!

Sadly, we missed Tyler in the picture.

Get $50 in 15 minutes

Are you feeling the pains of the economy? No money for Valentines Day treats or dates?

Well, we ran across a great way to make an extra $50 - $125 dollars. All you have to do is open a free checking account at TCF Bank, which is very close to our home here in the Springs. They also have branches in Arizona and Michigan. It only takes a few minutes and the account is completely free. We wanted to share this idea with all our friends and family, as there is little effort and virtually no risk. Who couldn't use a little extra money in their budget.

Please let them know we referred ya.

Cassidy's Cuteness

It's so hard to keep up with this funny girl with what comes out of her mouth. Here's a few...

Photobucket

  • Cassidy Loves books! We go to the Library quite often and she helps me pick out books. One day she added the book in the picture to our pile. The title reads: "Girls Think of Everything!" It made me laugh! I had to get it! It was actually a fascinating book of different inventions and creations started by Women.
  • Cassidy tried some Chocolate Souffle at Costco and her reply was... "It's Brownie Soup!"

  • Mommy: Would you like me to help you pick up your toys?
Cassidy: Yes, you may!

  • Cassidy was being "Extra Good, and Quiet" then I realized she was cutting her hair.
Daddy: Cassidy lets have a talk. We don't cut our hair, only paper that we give you.
Cassidy: How about Mulan? (of course she's right, Mulan did cut her hair)

  • Mommy: Derek, I'm M-A-D (spelling it out to him)
Cassidy: Takes a break from playing with her toys and says, "Mommy are you M-A-D (spelling it out like me) at Daddy?

  • Daddy: Why are you climbing on everything?
Cassidy: Daddy, I'm a climber, that's what climbers do!
  • Cassidy tries to take advantage of EVERY prayer. She then takes the time to THANK Heavenly Father for EVERYTHING! Mommy's Chicken, Daddy's Chicken, Cassidy's Chicken, Dolly, Bear, Big Girl Bed, our house, water, starts naming cousins, aunts, and uncles, our clothes, President Monson, on and on. At least she's grateful! ;)
  • When we have a Tickle War Cassidy will call out "Tickle Break!"

  • She's starting to name her little friends. One morning, she came up to me with her baby in her arms and introduced me to "Africa". Her dolly is now Brook-a-lyn. Cousin is Aday. I have no idea where she comes up with these names.

  • When she sees the Disney Castle on TV, (before the Disney movie starts) she says, "Disney Temple!"
  • Cassidy pretends my Elliptical machine is a Giant, named Pete and he's her friend.
  • Cassidy is also a very great cook! She always makes sure I eat a Salad with some toast. The other night I ate Chicken Noodle Soup. She was excited to get this kitchen from Santa for Christmas.

Christmas in Arizona

Our drive down to Sierra Vista, Arizona we had the chance to meet up with my brother Derek and his family in Las Cruses, New Mexico. We stayed at the same hotel and the kids had the chance to go swimming that night after a looong drive and the rest of the night for all of us to relax and enjoy each other. We didn't even plan on meeting with family along the way it just worked out that way, and we were ALL glad!

During the early, early hours of the morning my sister-in-law Lina got really sick. My brother had to take her to the ER. We were so glad we were able to be there for them and to help out. Throughout the morning we would get reports from my brother on how Lina was doing. As we waited, the kids and Derek and I enjoyed the complimentary hot breakfast and the hotel's famous cinnamon rolls. Then we went back to our rooms and had a big pillow fight. Our nephews, Phil (10 yrs.) and Sam (7 yrs.) were no match to their older brother so I thought I would jump in. Max (15 yrs.) was impressed with some of his Aunt Angie's moves. Our pillow fight seemed to last for quite awhile. It was so much fun! Even Cassidy tried to help her mommy with trying to take her cousins down with a pillow the same size as her. It was funny. (breakfast picture)

Lina was able to be discharged from the hospital around noon and she felt much better. She was definitely a trooper! We packed the cars and were on our way to Grandpa and Grandma's house (6 more hours to go). It was nice to caravan together. Here's a picture of my brother Derek, and Lina making Moose antlers.

We got to my parents house that evening, Christmas Eve. It was a BIG HUG welcoming!

The next morning it seemed like everyone was waiting on our family to open presents. We didn't get out of bed until 8am and everyone was so nice to let us sleep in even though they were up since 6am. We all gathered around the Christmas tree. My sister Jess and her family, and brother Dave and Brianna were able to join us on Christmas Day too.

We started our Christmas morning with a Christmas message given by Grandpa (my dad) and then each took a turn to share what we're grateful for. Let's just say we were passing around the tissue box. Then it was time to each take a turn opening gifts. Sam was our Santa helper this year and would make sure everyone had a gift to open. We take our time in opening gifts and enjoy watching one person at a time. So we can all share the excitement. Cassidy's cousins unanimously agreed Cassidy went first since she was a girl, and the only girl cousin. It was cute.

The 1st gift Cassidy opened was the book Derek and I had collected pictures for of all of our family members and designed them in a book for Cassidy. She loves to look at pictures of all of her cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. She enjoys learning all of their names and remembers them well. It was wonderful to sit back and soak in the "giving" of gifts. We were blessed with other wonderful gifts. Thanks family!

After the sharing of gifts we had a delicious hot breakfast. And just spent the rest of the day playing and talking.

Day after Christmas...

Christmas Continues in Phoenix...

Even though this year was the year for a Strong Christmas it was nice that we were able to spend some time with Derek's mom AKA Grammy and Derek's brother Scott, sister-in-law Sara and cousins Michael, Matthew, & Macey. It was wonderful for Cassidy to have MORE FUN with MORE COUSINS! We enjoyed sharing gifts, shopping, playing the Wii, getting caught up looking at Grammy's scrapbooks. She does an amazing job! And just spending some good time visiting. Thank you Grammy for spoiling us like always and to Scott and Sara for extending your stay so we can be together. We love you! We look forward to having a Johnson Reunion soon!
